Celebrating National Mutt Day in Derby, KS
The team at El Paso Animal Clinic wants to wish you a happy National Mutt Day, which falls on July 31 (and once more on December 2nd) every year. Anyone who is a fan of mixed breed animals mark your calendars and celebrate your four-legged friends.
About National Mutt Day
National Mutt Day, which people also refer to as National Mixed Breed Dog Day, was launched in 2005 by Colleen Paige, a celebrity pet lifestyle expert, and advocate for animal welfare.
The mission of National Mutt Day is to raise awareness about mixed breed dogs and their plight. It’s a sad fact that many dogs wind up being abandoned by their owners, a situation that has been made worse because of over breeding as well as increased demand by the public for pure bred puppies and so-called “designer dogs.”
Benefits of Mixed Breed Dogs
Did you know it is beneficial to be a mixed breed dog? In fact, mutts, in general, will be better behaved and healthier than pure bred dogs.
They are also suitable for tasks typically assigned to pure bred dogs, working with law enforcement to sniff out bombs and illegal drugs. You can find mixed breed dogs involved in search and rescue missions as well as guide dogs to lead people who have visual disabilities.
Things to do to Celebrate National Mutt Day
An excellent way to celebrate National Mutt Day is to go to your community’s shelter and look for a new mixed breed dog to adopt!
Or, you could offer to walk someone’s dog, such as a neighbor who is ill or injured. You might also have a desire to donate pet food or toys to families in need, which will always be greatly appreciated and is a great way to mark the special day.
If you are too busy to go to a shelter or currently not looking for a new dog to adopt, you can commemorate National Mutt Day by making a financial contribution to your favorite shelter or non-profit dog advocacy group.
