Kennel Technician

The purpose of this position is to provide exceptional care for all animals staying at El Paso Animal Clinic and to help maintain a clean and sanitary facility. This is a full time position. If interested, please contact Brenda at 316-788-1561.

Hours: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday

Every day duties:
Walk all hospital and boarding dogs (make sure all dogs are getting plenty of time outside to exercise and use the bathroom)
Clean runs and kennels with roccal
Feed/water/clean cages of all cats. Make sure they have new bedding, clean litter box
twice daily and water. Give all medications and treatments as noted.
Feed and water all boarding dogs
Give all treatments and medications to boarding animals and assist with the hospital
animals as needed
Start laundry (wash/dry/fold/put away) throughout day
Make sure all baths, nail trims and treatments are done Clean up all feces from clinic yard and around clinic in the AM and PM collect in a plastic bag and discard appropriately.
Sweep and wet mop the treatment area, surgery, radiology room, cat/dog hospital and
boarding at the end of the day.
Make sure all animals and belongings are cleaned daily and inspect them the morning of pick-up to make sure a bath is not needed. Go over the file as well to make sure all
treatments were done
Assist doctors and technicians in tasks that may be needed

Veterinary Technician

The purpose of this position is to assist the doctor’s by anticipating their needs and improving their efficiency. You are placed with the critical responsibility of patient care. This is a full time position that will require work on some Saturdays. Some experience is required.

General Duties:
When the doctors are seeing appointments have at least one technician in pharmacy area to assist with holding animals, filling prescriptions and anything else that would need to be done.
Pull blood and get all pre-op bloodwork started
Setup all materials needed for each particular surgery
Get IV fluids ready with surgical and post-surgical rates
Use surgical monitor during all procedures and closely monitor
Monitor all post-surgical patients carefully, checking on them multiple
times during the day. Make sure they are fed, walked and check incision
sites for changes.
Check all in house patients that are staying the night prior to leaving
(fluids, incisions, medication, alertness)
Skills Desired:
Place IV catheter
Place endotracheal tubes
Proper surgical preparation: neuter, spay, growth removal, cruciate surgical prep
Monitor anesthesia and surgical monitors: know parameters of when to alert doctors
Draw blood from jugular, cephalic, femoral and lateral saphenous veins
Proper knowledge of how to work all in house laboratory equipment
Proper restraint of large/small dogs and cats
Knowledge of anesthetic machine and trouble-shooting
Proper dental teeth cleaning procedure and dental radiographs

Reception Team Member

The purpose of this position is to serve as a reception team member at El Paso Animal Clinic, to perform record keeping duties, clerical duties related to patient care and treatment, and to provide miscellaneous support to the health care team.  These service functions include, but are not limited to, reception (in person visitors and telephone), maintenance of veterinary medical records, account maintenance, cash processing, data entry, word processing, and mail service.  This position requires a practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animal patient treatment, data transcribing, word processing, and a practical knowledge of the standard procedures, veterinary records and terminology used in the hospital. 

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide friendly, quality client are to the patients and clients of El Paso Animal Clinic.
Receive incoming calls in a professional, courteous manner. 
Client check in - Greet clients in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.
Discharge patients.  Review charts of patients being discharged from the clinic for completeness of information.  Enter charges and set up future reminders in the system.
Present clients with medications and instructions.
Assure that all financial obligations are met by owners.
Prepare to receive clients by retrieving client records and preparing the room for the health care team.

Possession of strong organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Must possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
Requires strong client service skills.  Personal contacts are with pet owners affected by a variety of problems, visitors and other healthcare team members.  Considerable tact and diplomacy is required.  Must accurately relay owner’s account of the medical complaint(s) of the pet(s) involved to the health care team member who will be involved in treating the patient(s).
Ability to work in a fast paced enviroment, while handling mutiple tasks at once.
Knowledge of hospital procedures and operating instructions for making appointments, assembling patient medical records, recording test results, relaying information regarding patient’s condition, and compiling and submitting data on patients treating.
Knowledge of the spelling and meaning of commonly used terminology of veterinary medicine to accurately record results of test and file veterinary medical reports.
